NAVIGATING THE SPECTRUM

About Me
I am a Certified Autism Spectrum Disorder Clinical Specialist and am very passionate about working with individuals on the autism spectrum. I have dedicated my research and my practice to helping people with ASD realize their talents and gifts. I know first hand how hard it can be relating to the neurotypical world, and how being a parent to a child with ASD can be overwhelming.

I utilize cognitive behavioral therapy and appreciative inquiry to help individuals realize their abilities and grow in self-efficacy. Many challenges that people with ASD face can be turned into advantages. Uniqueness is a good thing and I'm here to help balance being unique with fitting into a society that is sometimes unforgiving.

For parents, I believe that our guilt can often lead to indulgence, and the negative feelings associated with being a parent of a child with ASD may be a barrier to their success. I like to help parents be supporters, not managers, and give them the peace of mind of knowing their child can not only be an independent and happy member of our society but excel!

Specializing in Anxiety, Self-regulation, Social Skills, Motivation, Parent Support, and Staff Training.
Anxiety
Self-Regulation
Social Skills
Anxiety can be a real issue for individuals with ASD. I love to teach clients tips and tricks to deal with their anxiety through management of self-defeating thoughts, in addition to practical ways to decrease the physical symptoms of anxiety.
Motivation
For individuals with ASD it's often difficult to be motivated by something that is not of interest. This could lead to poor grades or poor work performance. A lack of motivation can turn into lethargy. Focusing on their specialized interests to increase motivation works wonders!
Managing sensory overload, uncomfortable social situations, and uncontrollable emotions can be a barrier to success. The great thing is, there are ways to adapt and lots of strategies for moderation.
Parent Support
Parenting a child with ASD is both exhilarating and daunting. Acceptance and support of a child with ASD is key. I like to work with parents to help them understand the emotions that they are going through and ways to help their child be independent and satisfied.
This is a tough one. Many people with ASD give up trying to be social due to negative experiences. Often they are trying to fit into a mold that feels foreign and scary. I like to help people find what's comfortable for them, and bit by bit they can find their social excellence.
Staff Training
The rate at which individuals are being diagnosed with ASD has increased exponentially in the last 20 years. It is imperative that professionals be trained on the best ways to support these students and employees. I offer training on the disorder; what to expect, how to understand and utilize their talents, and how to help them be successful whether it be at work or at school.
